This year's December meeting was even more special than usual because it was the first time the South Texas Border Chapter had an in-person meeting in 22 months. Our planned tour of Oleander Acres' Butterfly Garden was rained out, but we still had a good time. We had Election of Officers, Certification, Re-Certification and Milestone Awards Presentation, Photo Slideshow of members volunteering in the past few years, Silent Auction, and Anne put together a funny skit. Forty seven people attended, including 35 members and several new trainees. Hopefully it won't be long before we can meet in-person again.
The following individuals were voted in by ballot or by acclamation if unopposed.
President: Donna Otto
1st VP: Joseph Connors
2nd VP: Elizabeth Perdomo
Secretary: Mario Fierro
Treasurer: Gayle Rice
For the immediate future our meetings will continue virtually (as well as our classes). We will be monitoring closely how the Rio Grande Valley is responding to COVID preventive measures to determine how soon we might resume in-person or hybrid meetings. In the meantime, watch for outdoor field trips we will be planning, and thank you for your continued support of the organizations we volunteer with.
Enjoy the holiday season and may the new year bring us new opportunities to serve as Texas Master Naturalists and the ability to continue with current opportunities that bring joy and fulfilment to each of us and those who benefit from the results of our efforts.
